MedTech Innovator Selects PhotoniCare for 2018 Showcase and Accelerator

PhotoniCare, a medical device company headquartered in Champaign, Illinois, was selected as one of the Top 50 startup companies to participate in the MedTech Innovator medical technology startup accelerator and showcase program. There were over 700 applications submitted by companies from around the world to participate in the 2018 cohort. The final selection features a total of 50 companies from nine different countries, including 25 early-stage and 25-mid-stage companies with transformative device, diagnostic, and digital health technologies.

The four-month program is set to commence at the MedTech Innovator Summit in San Francisco the week of June 18, 2018. At this exclusive event, leadership from the 50 selected startups will work alongside representatives from the MedTech Innovator’s corporate partners, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the U.S. Military. Then, on June 22, the startups will participate in a showcase at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati’s 26th Annual Medical Device Conference in San Francisco. This will be the first of three competitions totaling more than $500,000 in cash prizes during the four-month program. Additional cash prizes are at stake throughout the conference as companies compete for the vote of the conference audience and of the attending business development executives and investors.

The MedTech Innovator program will conclude at the end of September in Philadelphia, where all 50 companies will present in showcase panels at The MedTech Conference, powered by AdvaMed. At this event, four startups from the Accelerator Cohort will advance to compete in the grand finale. The audience at this event, which includes the largest gathering of medtech industry leaders from across North America, will determine the winners. The winners will receive more $500,000 in cash prizes, scholarships, in-kind services, and an opportunity for incubator spaces at JLABSMagnify at CNSI, and the Gore Innovation Center.

“PhotoniCare is excited to participate as an accelerator awardee in MedTech Innovator’s 2018 program,” said Ryan Shelton, PhotoniCare CEO and Co-Founder. “MedTech Innovator is a unique, industry-sponsored program with a mandate to bring as much value to a company as possible in a short amount of time. We look forward to meeting the other companies in the program and continuing a very strong year for PhotoniCare.”
