For the first time, healthcare providers can view a high-resolution depth image on-screen to learn what’s going on in the middle ear. Without invasive procedures, such as a tympanocentesis, healthcare providers are unable to definitively ascertain the contents of the middle ear so they are left with a judgement call – a less than ideal situation for all involved. Today, children suffering from recurring ear infections will do so for 6 to 12 months before they are referred to an ENT specialist. During this time the healthcare provider will often prescribe increasingly stronger antibiotics. With the TOMi ™ Scope, a healthcare provider could order a reimbursable diagnostic exam early on. If biofilm or other disease is present, the child could receive the proper surgical intervention sooner.
