Luis Villalobos founded the Tech Coast Angels, one of the largest and most respected angel organizations in the world. The ACA website notes that Villalobos appreciated ingenuity and entrepreneurial thinking in every aspect of life, always looking to invest and mentor innovative companies. He made nearly 60 personal investments and offered education and mentoring to numerous entrepreneurs before his passing in 2009.

The Luis Villalobos Awards, named in his honor, recognizes the most ingenious and innovative idea recently financed by members of the ACA. Each year, finalists are selected to attend the ACA Summit and honored as a group. PhotoniCare was one of four finalists honored, alongside Catalyst OrthoScience from Naples, FL, CNote from Oakland, CA, and Oculogica from New York, NY.

Ryan Nolan, Co-founder and Director of Clinical Development, represented PhotoniCare at the awards ceremony.

“It was an honor to be nominated by VisionTech and among such esteemed competition for the Luis Villalobos Award honoring innovation,” said Nolan. “At PhotoniCare, it is our goal to bring diagnostic innovation to the front lines of medicine, where it is sorely needed. We’ve had a great year so far, having hit many milestones already in 2018. So we’d like to extend a special thank you to all our investors, collaborators, friends, and family for their support; we wouldn’t be where we are today without it!”
