PhotoniCare, Inc. Chosen as a 2018 SPIE Startup Semi-Finalist

PhotoniCare, Inc. was chosen as one of 24 semi-finalists to participate in the 2018 SPIE Startup Challenge set to take place on January 31, 2018 in San Francisco, California. The Challenge is a part of Photonics West, the world’s largest photonics technologies event.

The SPIE Startup Challenge is a competitive event where entrepreneurs pitch their light-based technology business plan to a team of corporate development experts and venture capitalists. The best pitchers receive cash prizes and are selected to attend a week-long entrepreneur boot camp to refine their ideas and make further contacts with industry experts. The challenge will feature 24 semi-finalists in total, divided into the following three categories:

  • Track 1: Biophotonics and point of care
  • Track 2: Imaging, displays, lasers, and semiconductors
  • Track 3: Sensors, wearables, and internet of things

PhotoniCare will compete in the Biophotonics and point of care track, consisting of 10 startups from across the world. Ryan Shelton, co-founder and CEO, will pitch at the presentation.

“SPIE gave much so me over the years as I grew in this industry,” said Shelton. “It’s a fantastic organization that wants to show the world what a wonderful impact optics and photonics technologies can make. I’m honored to be a semifinalist in this contest alongside some excellent competing technologies. I look forward to an exciting event.”

Photonics West draws thousands of scientists, engineers, and executives for the world’s most comprehensive technical conference and exhibition spanning biophotonics for brain research and healthcare, lasers for research and advanced manufacturing, sensors and camera systems, imagining and displays, communications and optoelectronics, plus the core optical components that enable many of today’s consumer products.
